Robert finally made it across the dam.  After two attempts circumstances could not stand in his way and he made it.  That's the kind of grit and determination that made this country great!  Who would have thought that one runner's goal of crossing the dam could symbolize this great nation and all she stands for?  Who would have thought it?  No one probably... who knows why I did....
