Every year RD Jim scours through the ranks of the waitlisted for the perfect sweep runner (in other words, some one desperate to get it).  A good sweep should at least be a strong runner adept at wilderness navigation.  Not only was Doug a really strong runner, but he is a physician with the Lower Adirondack Wilderness Rescue Crew.  He's like a real life Doc Hollywood - his car broke down in Greenfield and the locals wouldn't let him go.  It almost seems like a waste some one didn't drop out there.
